There are different varieties of cotton, as well as different quality levels. Two of the highest quality cottons are Egyptian and Pima/Supima cotton.Egyptian cottonis grown in Egypt, as the name suggests. Pima cotton is grown in the United States, although you might often see it referred to as “Supima,” as well. This is a portmanteau of “superior pima” and is a registered trademark of the Supima trade association, which promotes Pima cotton. 

Duvet covers often have buttons, ties, an envelope flap, or zipper as a closure to keep the insert enclosed. It should be noted that a Duvet is the insert that goes inside the Duvet Cover; usually comprised of down or a down alternative. When the insert and duvet cover are together, sometimes it is referred to as a Comforter. It is common for Duvet Covers to have finishing details like flanges or embroidery along the side and bottom edges only.

It wasn’t until Habitat opened in 1964 that duvets hit the mass market. The founder of Habitat, Sir Terence Conran, discovered duvets being used in Sweden. He opened Habitat and started selling them, together with duvet covers. The duvet was marketed as the ‘10 second bed’ and the ease at making a bed was a real hit with the housewives. It was from then that the use of duvets caught on.

Despite the cons, silk sheets are cool, rich, and perfect for adding more romance to a room. 

A satin sheet may be made of silk but is generally made from synthetic fibres which are woven or knitted tightly together. This synthetic fabric has a silky, smooth finish and is inexpensive. However, it is not very durable, can snag easily and feel hot and sweaty to sleep in.
