4.  SHAFT SPEED: As different shafts move at different speeds you need to consider the runout, the housing bore, and oil type being sealed. Ensure you select a seal that will not suffer from abrasions or spiralling.

On most cars you need not remove the engine to get at the sump . But often you have to raise it slightly and wedge it on its mountings so that the sump moves clear of the front- suspension cross member.

THE DIFFERENT SIZES OF OIL SEALS

Areas of application of this rubber are suggested by its outstanding temperature resistance (-55 °C to +200 °C), although this must not be applied to hot water or steam. Although silicone rubber almost matches NBR in oil resistance, it does not match the latter's physical and mechanical properties.

Cassette seals are designed to maximise grease or oil retention and protection against liquid or solid contaminants. These seals are provided with their own bushings in which dirt is kept out and oil/grease kept in by a multi-lip seal.
